Lambeth MIND Design Workshops at Stockwell Studios
"I was thrilled to be asked to provide a typography workshop for members of Lambeth Mind as a part of the Annie McCall Heritage Project.
It is very often my privilege to meet creative people from all walks of life and so it proved working with the Lambeth Mind team.
The workshop aimed to provide all participants with a better understanding of the fundamental principles of typography and page layout to enable them to produce more creative and expressive designs for their newsletter.
We began by looking at the rules of elemental typography and the formal aspects of the grid. Beyond this we explored a more expressive use of layout, typographics and illustrative elements to create unique and challenging designs.
For me the experience provided confirmation once again, were it needed, that creativity and visual expression are not the sole preserves of those inhabiting the 'artistic world'; they are there for us all to enjoy, more so when they appear to flow so freely from those with no formal training."
Bobby Gunthorpe, project leader
"The workshops with Bobby combined challenging studio work with idyllic sunny lunches in the large rambling studio garden which is maintained by studio artists . The creative energy generated over the three sessions was great to experience. We look forward to further joint projects with MIND inthe near future."
